There used to be a time when you could not mention “Mother” and “Deadbeat” in the same sentence (It was considered blasphemous). That phrase, for quite sometime, has been reserved almost exclusively for fathers–until now.
Recent studies show that the numbers of mothers dodging child support payments, walking out of the lives of their children, and basically not caring whether or not they’re a good parent is growing. The troubling part is that those numbers are steadily increasing.
In Jefferson County, Kentucky alone, for example, the child support division reported that a significant amount of deadbeat mothers “haven’t paid a dime in years?” However, Family Rights Lawyer–Louis Winner–attributes this dilemma to the father’s reluctancy to seek financial support from the mothers. “It becomes a little more difficult for the father to say you know what, I need to go after and get child support because it’s the right thing to do and it cost money to raise children.”
But it appears that women, unlike men, are shown an insurmountable amount of leniency when it comes to negating their parental duties. Or at least that’s what Assistant Director of Child Support Division, Angela Anton, professes. “Instead of being deadbeats, mothers are more dead broke from the economy and are having issues with drugs and alcohol.”
I don’t know about you, but that statement appears to have the residue of an “Excuse” being made for worthless mothers. Besides, I personally know of a few fathers who struggle with the same pitfalls. And believe me, no one is empathetic towards their plight–especially when children are involved.
Perhaps I’m a bit apathetic about offering sympathy to mothers who are unable or just plain lazy to rise above their mental, physical, and emotional condition for the well-being of their offspring. And maybe I have the right to be, because, after all–I’m a single dad.
PREACH IT!!!! Sooo many lazy women who are having a ton of baby's and getting away scott-free for their behaviour. It's really sad.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe this is anything new, it just wasn't being discussed in these terms. I can't begin to tell you how many people I have met in my 40 years on earth that were raised by their grandparents due to MIA parents, MOMS and DADS alike.

ReplyDeleteAccording to Judge David Grey Ross, Commissioner of the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement during his tenure, the vast majority of child support by fathers was paid in full. Only 7% refused to pay. As the numbers of cases of mothers ordered to pay, 95% are refusing.
ReplyDeleteIt should be noted in this that the states are refusing to inform obligors that they provide free help to modify an order in the event of a job loss or other cause resulting in a reduction in income. They are not distributing the Federal Child Support Enforcement Handbook for Non-Custodial Parents.

I re-posted this article in a men's advocacy group I belonged to and was immediately attacked by a black woman who thought the article was racist. When I asked her how so she said "if you don't get it its because your racist". Wow.
